FAMU, a land-grant university, was founded in 1887. FAMU is a comprehensive, public co-educational institution that offers baccalaureate, professional, masters and doctoral degree programs. The University encourages and supports innovative teaching and promotes research and scholarship enhanced by evolving technology, including distance learning. As of Fall 1999, FAMU offered 108 undergraduate degrees in 68 undergraduate programs and 62 graduate degrees in 32 graduate programs (includes one professional and 12 doctoral degrees).
