Accountant

General Description

The Florida Education Fund, Inc., seeks an Accountant for its Tampa, Florida, office. The Accountant is responsible for overseeing all financial, payroll, and personnel functions of FEF, including both administrative and program-related activities. This role ensures the timely preparation and delivery of accurate financial information and reports to the Board of Directors and the Chief Executive Officer.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the annual operating budget, aligning program expenses with projected revenue.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for grant proposals and assist with grant proposal writing.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements in compliance with state, city, and governmental requirements.
  • Prepare monthly financial forecasts and provide strategic guidance to the President on cash flow management.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliation and performance analysis of the investment portfolio relative to established benchmarks.
  • Perform strategic investment analysis and deliver insights based on market trends.
  • Ensure complete and accurate recording of program expenditures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Drive the implementation of systems to digitize and streamline financial activities, including budgeting, student stipend and fee disbursement, and expense reporting.
  • Ensure accurate tracking and maintenance of all student status changes, including deferment, leave of absence, internships, and graduation.
  • Lead the coordination and execution of all annual, state, and city audits, ensuring timely completion.
  • Oversee timely bill payments, ensuring all charges are accurate and correctly assigned to the appropriate program.
  • Coordinate bi-weekly payroll processing for all employees using Paylocity.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of personnel files and administration of employee benefits programs.
  • Maintain compliance by ensuring all required payroll tax returns are prepared and filed in accordance with regulations.
  • Review and assess 403(b) retirement plans for cost efficiency, quality, and overall effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in business administration with emphasis in Accounting. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years work experience in a financial environment.
  • Licensed CPA.

  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven background in budgeting and financial analysis.
  • Ethical judgment and integrity in handling financial data
  • Strong computer proficiency with several years of hands-on experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, data analysis)
  • Skilled in organizing and maintaining efficient records management systems.
  • Effective communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
